NOTE: To replace parts, follow the
steps below in reverse. |
Removing/Replacing
the Computer Cover
Removing
the computer cover
- Turn off the power, unlock the computer (if necessary),
and unplug the power cable.
- Unscrew the 2 cover-mounting screws on the back panel of
the computer.
- Slide the cover forward until it disengages from the
teeth along the sides of the chassis base, and lift the
cover straight up and away from the chassis.
- Remove the computer cover.
- Press against the tab
on each side of the insert from the inside of the
computer cover until the insert snaps out.
- Remove the computer cover.
- Remove
the front-panel insert.
- Pull the right side of the metal
insert out, and swing the insert until it
disengages from the left side of the drive cage.
Removing/Replacing
a Drive in the Drive Cage
- Remove the computer cover.
- Remove
the front-panel inserts, if needed.
- Squeeze the tabs on each side of the drive, and pull the
drive out.
 |
NOTE: When sliding the new drive
into its drive bay, make sure that both drive rail tabs
snap into place. If they do not, adjust the position of
each drive rail by loosening the screws and sliding the
drive rail forward or backward as needed. |
Removing/Replacing
the Drive Cage
- Remove the computer cover.
- Disconnect all cables from the backs of the drives in the
drive cage.
 |
NOTE: If the drive cage is being
replaced (not reinstalled), remove the drives from
the drive bays by squeezing the 2 tabs on each drive
and pulling it out. |
- Remove the single screw securing the hard-disk drive
bracket to the drive cage.
- Remove the 2 screws securing the drive cage to the
chassis floor.
- Pull the drive cage toward the front of the computer
until it is free of the guides on the chassis floor, and
lift it out.
Removing/Replacing
a Hard-Disk Drive
- Remove the computer cover.
- Disconnect any cables from the back of the drive.
- Remove the
drive cage.
- Turn the drive cage
upside down, and remove the 4 screws securing the drive
to the hard-disk drive bracket.
Removing/Replacing
the Power Supply
- Remove the computer cover.
- Disconnect the DC power cables from the system board,
from any drives, and from any expansion cards.
- Remove the 4 screws that secure the power supply to the
chassis.
- Slide the power supply toward the front of the computer,
and lift it up and out of the chassis.
Removing/Replacing
Expansion Cards
- Remove the computer cover.
- Disconnect any cables from the expansion card. Note the
location of the cables in relation to pin 1 before
removing the cables.
- Remove the retaining screw from the card-mounting
bracket, grasp the expansion card by its corners, and
carefully pull it out of its expansion-card connector by
rocking the card gently.
 |
NOTE: When removing an expansion
card permanently, install a metal filler bracket over the
empty card-slot opening. |
Removing/Replacing
the Expansion-Card Cage
- Remove the computer cover.
- Remove any
expansion cards (which is not required, but highly
suggested).
- Remove the screw
securing the expansion-card cage to the chassis.
- Remove
the hard-disk drive.
- Remove the screw securing the expansion-card cage to the
chassis.
- Lift the expansion-card cage up and away from the
chassis. The expansion-card cage may have to be rocked
gently to disengage it from the plastic guides on the
chassis and to remove the ISA riser board from its
connector on the system board.
Removing/Replacing
the ISA Riser Board
- Remove the computer cover.
- Remove any
expansion cards.
- Remove
the expansion-card cage.
- Unscrew the 3 screws securing the ISA riser board to the
expansion-card cage, and remove the card, pulling it out
from under the mounting tab and mounting guides.
Removing/Replacing
the VESA Riser Card
- Remove the computer cover.
- Remove any
expansion cards.
- Remove
the expansion-card cage.
- Remove the 2 mounting screws holding the VESA riser card, and pull
the card out from under the 2 mounting guides.
 |
NOTE: The VESA riser card can be
installed directly on the system board in the VL2
connector. |
Removing/Replacing
the System Board
- Remove the computer cover.
- Disconnect any cables attached to the I/O port connectors
on the back panel.
- Disconnect the following cables from the system board:
- Diskette/tape drive interface cable
- Hard-disk drive interface cable
- Hard-disk drive access indicator cable
- DC power cables
- Control panel cable
- Remove
the hard-disk drive.
- Remove any
expansion cards.
- Remove
the expansion-card cage.
- Remove the 3 grounding screws, and press down on the
plastic catch to release the system board from the
chassis floor. Slide the system board down toward the
front of the computer, and then pull up to remove the
system board.
Removing/Replacing
the Microprocessor
- Remove the computer cover.
- Remove any
expansion cards.
 |
WARNING: The microprocessor can
get extremely hot during intense system operations. Be
sure the microprocessor has had sufficient time to cool
before touching it. |
- To remove the heat sink, use an extremely small
screwdriver to pry up one end of the securing chip. Snap
off the clip, and lift off the heat sink and the thin
graphite pad lying underneath it.
- Remove the microprocessor chip
from the LIF socket. Be careful not to bend any of the
pins when doing so.
Removing/Replacing
the System Battery
 |
NOTE: Make a copy of the system
configuration information before performing the following
steps: |
- Remove the computer cover.
- Remove
the hard-disk drive.
- Pry the old battery out of the B2 socket with the fingers
or with a blunt, nonconductive object.
- Orient the battery with the side labeled "+"
facing up. Then insert the battery
into the socket, and snap it into place.
- Enter the System Setup program, and confirm that the
battery is operating properly.
Removing/Replacing
the Control Panel
- Remove the computer cover.
- Disconnect the control panel cable from the PANEL
connector on the system board.
- Remove the single screw securing the control panel to the
bracket. Lift the control panel away from the bracket.
 |
NOTE: When reinstalling the control
panel, remember to align the notches in the control panel
with the tabs on the bracket's inside surface. |
