Il drive non viene riconosciuto dal sistema.	Reinserire tutti i cavi e i connettori.
L'unità non riesce a leggere CD-ROM, a leggere o scrivere CD-R o CD-RW, DVD+R o DVD+RW.	Controllare che il disco non sia inserito al rovescio. Provare un altro disco. Se il disco funziona, verificare controllare che il disco originale non sia sporco o molto graffiato. Provare a pulire/ripristinare il disco seguendo le istruzioni del produttore del disco. Durante la scrittura del disco era in funzione il salvaschermo o un'altra applicazione? Se si, provare nuovamente ad applicazione spenta. C'è sufficiente spazio libero sul CD-R/RW o sul disco DVD+R/RW? L'unità o il disco sono passati recentemente da un ambiente con temperatura fredda ad un ambiente con temperatura calda? (C'è la possibilità che si formi della condensa sulla lente dell'unità o sulla superficie del disco.) Se si, provare nuovamente dopo 15 min.
Quando si avvia un CD audio, il lettore CD indica che il CD è in funzione ma dagli altoparlanti non esce alcun suono .	La modalità di riproduzione dell'unità dovrebbe essere impostata su "Digitale". In Windows XP, per esempio, usare il Pannello di controllo e aprire "Sistema" e poi "Hardware". Avviare Gestione Periferiche e nelle unità "DVD/CD-ROM", fare doppio click sulla entry dell'unità e poi fare click sulla barra "Proprietà". Spuntare la casella contrassegnata "Abilitare CD audio digitale per questo dispositivo CD-ROM". La modalità del lettore CD dovrebbe essere impostata su "Digitale". In Windows Media Player, per esempio, dalla barra menu fare click su "Strumenti", poi su "Opzioni" e poi fare click sulla barra "Periferiche". Selezionare l'unità e fare click sul pulsante "Proprietà". Impostare la modalità playback su "Digitale"
Il piatto portadisco non può essere aperto.	Arrestare il sistema. Attendere 1 minuto prima di riaccendere il sistema. Premere il tasto di espulsione. Arrestare il sistema. Inserire un oggetto sottile, non più corto di 4,5 cm di lunghezza e con un diametro non inferiore a 1,3 mm, nel Foro di Espulsione di Emergenza (come ad es. una graffetta per carta raddrizzata). Il piatto portadisco si aprirà parzialmente. Afferrare il piatto portadisco tra il pollice e l’indice ed estrarlo completamente.
