For Dell Dimension Vxxx and Vxxxc systems with integrated audio,
there are three audio connectors on the back
panel of the computer:
- A line-out jack (green) for connecting the audio cable from speakers with integrated
amplifiers
- A line-in jack (blue) for connecting the line-out cable from record/playback devices
such as cassette players, CD players, and VCRs
- A microphone jack (red) for connecting the audio cable from a personal computer
microphone
To adjust the volume control, follow these steps:
- Click the yellow speaker icon in the Windows 98 or Windows NT
taskbar to display the Volume Control window.
- Increase or decrease the volume by moving the slide switches up or down.
Some speakers also have a volume control. See the speaker documentation
for more information.
To reinstall the audio drivers for the Windows 98 operating system,
follow these steps:
- Start the Windows 98 operating system.
- If you have not already done so, make a diskette set of the Yamaha audio
drivers by clicking Dell DiskMaker in the Dell Accessories folder.

NOTE: The Windows 98 audio drivers are also available from
the File Library on the Dell Web site. The audio driver filename is w98yamah.exe. |
- Insert YAMAHA Audio Driver for Windows 98 Disk 1 into drive A.
- Click the Start button, and then click Run.
- Type a:\setup.exe and press <Enter>.
- When the Welcome window appears, click Next to start
loading the driver files.
- When prompted, remove the current diskette and insert the next diskette
into drive A. Then click OK.
- When prompted to restart your system to complete the installation, remove
the diskette from drive A and click Finish.
- After the system restarts, make sure c:\windows appears as the
pathname in the New Hardware Found window. Then click Next twice.
To uninstall the Windows 98 audio drivers, follow these steps:
- Double-click dsuninst in the c:\yamaha\ds-xg directory to
start the uninstall program.
- Click Yes.
The uninstall program removes all files in the c:\yamaha\ds-xg
directory, except dsuninst (the uninstall program).

NOTE: An audio game driver that enables Yamaha sound to
function in true Microsoft MS-DOS� mode is
available from the File Library on the Dell Web site. The audio driver filename is dos_init.exe.
Note that this driver is not supported by Dell. |
To reinstall the audio drivers for the Windows NT 4.0 operating system,
follow these steps:
- Start the Windows NT operating system.
- If you have not already done so, make a diskette set of the Yamaha audio
drivers by clicking Dell DiskMaker in the Dell Accessories folder.

from the File Library on the Dell Web site. |
- Insert YAMAHA Audio Driver for Windows NT 4.0 Disk 1 into drive A.
- Click the Start button, and then click Run.
- Type a:\setup.exe and press <Enter>.
- When the Welcome window appears, click Next.
- Click OK when prompted to install the drivers in c:\yamaha\ds-xg\.
- When prompted, remove the current diskette and insert the next diskette
into drive A. Then click OK.
After all of the diskettes files are loaded, the system returns to
the Windows NT desktop.
- Remove the diskette from drive A and restart the system.
- Click the Start button, point to Settings, and click Control
Panel.
- Double-click the Multimedia icon.
- In the Multimedia Properties window, click the Devices tab.
Then click Add.
- In the Add dialog box, select Unlisted or Updated Driver
and click OK.
- In the Add Unlisted or Updated Driver dialog box, use the Browse
button to select c:\yamaha\ds-xg\, and click OK
three times.
