Removing the Coin-Cell Battery

CAUTION: Before you perform any of the procedures in this section, follow the safety instructions in the Product Information Guide.

NOTICE: To avoid electrostatic discharge, ground yourself by using a wrist grounding strap or by periodically touching an unpainted metal surface, such as the back panel on the computer.

1. Follow the instructions in Preparing to Work Inside the Computer.
   
   
2. Remove the hinge cover (see Removing the Hinge Cover).
   
   
3. Remove the keyboard (see Removing the Keyboard).
   
   
4. Use a plastic scribe to lift the battery upward and remove it from the system board.

Replacing the Coin-Cell Battery

1. Follow the instructions in Preparing to Work Inside the Computer.
   
   
2. Follow the instructions in Removing the Coin-Cell Battery.
   
   
3. Insert the new battery into the circular socket with the positive side up, then push it into place.
   
   
4. Replace the keyboard (see Replacing the Keyboard).
   
   
5. Replace the hinge cover (see Replacing the Hinge Cover).
