  Removing the Modem

  Replacing the Modem


NOTE: If you ordered the optional modem at the same time that you ordered your computer, the modem is already installed.

Removing the Modem

CAUTION: Before you perform any of the procedures in this section, follow the safety instructions in the Product Information Guide.
NOTICE: To avoid electrostatic discharge, ground yourself by using a wrist grounding strap or by periodically touching an unpainted metal surface, such as the back panel on the computer.
  1. Follow the instructions in Preparing to Work Inside the Computer.

  2. Loosen the two captive screws on the modem/Mini-Card/wireless cover, then remove the cover and set it aside.

  1. Remove the M2 x 3-mm screw securing the modem to the system board and set it aside.

  2. Pull straight up on the attached pull-tab to disconnect the modem from the connector on the system board.

  3. Disconnect the modem cable from the modem.

Replacing the Modem

  1. Follow the instructions in Preparing to Work Inside the Computer.

  2. Follow the instructions in Removing the Modem, as applicable.

NOTICE: The modem connectors are keyed to ensure correct insertion. If you feel resistance, check the connectors for proper alignment.
  1. Connect the modem cable to the new modem.

  2. Connect the modem to the system board.

Align the modem with the screw hole and press the modem into the connector on the system board.

  1. Replace the M2 x 3-mm screw and secure the modem to the system board.

  2. Replace the modem/Mini-Card/wireless cover and tighten the screws.
